Silchester Community

Silcestre (xi cent.); Ciltestere, Cilcestre (xiii cent.); Scilchestre (xiv cent.); Sylkchester (xviii cent.).

Welcome to Silchester. We belong to a vibrant community and we are proud to be part of this. Our lineage goes back centuries - the most visible being the Roman Town of Calleva Atrebatum. The story of that past can be found at  Silchester Roman City Walls and Amphitheatre and at Silchester Roman Town project.

Since the extension was built the church community has expanded and now thrives with visitors, concerts and events. It hosts the University of Reading annual 'dig' in the Roman Town of Calleva Atrebatum as an education centre with weekly talks. There are a number of musical concerts held in church each year along with Lent and Advent lunches. The church is also an increasingly popular venue for weddings and baptisms.
